The 3-day T-25 !!

Yaa!! I know the title sounds funny(quite similar to the T-20 cricket match)....but that is actually my 1st internal for this sem. It will take 3 days...2 papers per day....25 marks each..and I have already realized one thing that this sem is going to be not only hectic but also requires much more time for studies especially ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & LANGUAGE PROCESSOR.

Actually I (and many others) have the feeling that our mind gets most creative just before exams. As an example I get most of my creative blogging ideas the moment I open a book to study for the exams. It's a different story that I don't pen down (rather type)  these ideas on my blog.Well, exams at SVIST have been nothing short of a war. Yes its more of a last moment war but war is a war and must be fought.

I think its not necessary to present here the sequence of events that take place just before an exam. Those who are studying in an engineering college are aware of the fact that how to tackle exams(Ha ha ha...).

They are quite a regular affair here at SVIST - 2 mid term exams and an end semester. Along with studies, exam times are filled with teasing, leg-pulling, mocking and such other activities. Most of the hostel pranks and tricks are masterminded during these times.I really enjoy these moments. These are one of my personal favorite times in college.

Anyway, tomorrow I have to face the first internal exam of this sem at SVIST.So let's hope for the best .... and I'll probably watch a movie after this post just to refresh myself :-)

That's all for today...njoy:-)

Monsoon rains in kolkata !!

Just look outside the window right now while you are reading this. You can see people rushing along with their colourful umbrellas and the clouds darken the sky, a strong wind blow, accompanying it with thunder and lightning. And as you let the cool breeze in, you will definitely start singing the song “Pagla Hawar Badol Dine.....!”

But these early rain showers and the cloudy skies in Kolkata has got a lot of us confused... is it time to sit with a plate of pakodas and hot coffee enjoying a book while the rain pitter patters outside? The weather has strong food associations in all of us. Having fun in a cool drizzle with a bunch of friends, a cup of hot coffee as we take shelter in a coffee shop to avoid getting wet are memories most of us have.

Really the Kolkata rains are a thrill, not just because they are a joy but also because they are feared! When we talk about the wonderful rains around the city, it also reminds us of those traumatic days when the whole
waterlogged street in front of our hostel
city came to a standstill, those days that no Kolkatans would dare to forget. Keeping aside memories of that, we have moved on and continue to enjoy these days just like we did before.

Kolkata now has accepted the rains with the floods and waterlogging that goes with it. We continue to live with usual cheer despite the fact that we get drenched with random drizzles, sweat caused by the massive humidity while we  are trying to keep up with the local trains that run late! Yet we refuse to complain and just shrug it off saying “Eta to rozkar baper, notun ki?”. This blog post is dedicated to this very never say die spirit that lives in us.

Let the traffic jam up for hours, or roads get submerged beneath tonnes of water, a true Kolkatans would never press the panic button and that is the Spirit of Kolkata!

Every season brings us into a particular 'right mood' - a mood where we truly enjoy the weather and wait for it to come again next year! In the monsoons one such occasion can be -  walking on a cloudy day with your girlfriend, college friends or even pet dog and having a great time. It is the ideal way to spend such a day, but then it starts raining when you are least expecting it to and instead of running for cover, you enjoy the drops of rain falling on your body and even break out in a dance! It may sounds like a cheezy bollywood flick, but its still that much fun :D

What is not cheezy or unrealistic is the urge to have hot pakodas with a cup of hot tea during the rains! You would be on your balcony, sitting and enjoying your evening cup of tea on a weekend and the heavens open up. Almost instantaneuosly as it starts to pour, the first thing you want more than anything is that plate of hot bhajiyas!and a spicy chutney to go with it makes the evening perfect!(..really missing all this!!..as i am currently staying at hostel.)

You are probably already waiting for the next rains to come when you can have this hot, oily treat! Well, your wait will be short lived as Kolkata is getting a lot of rains now a days! And Don't forget to share your pakoda experience with me in comments.

Enjoy the monsoon......have loads of fun :-)

Back again to the world of Blogging!!

Hey everyone! There has been a long gap between the last post and this one. But now I am back again, after a very long time. Over the past few months (I mean almost a year ha ha ha..)  a lot has transpired and some of which were life changing events.I am now a student of 4th year and going to face my very first campus interview very soon.so I need to prepare for that. Also the 7th sem by far has been the most hectic of all semesters in terms of college activities. All that stress and additional work load has taken a serious toll on my body and mind.

I think the reason for the stress is due to the fact that for once I have bitten more than I can chew. My head has been polluted with career options, projects and constant bombardment of new information that the world is producing and streaming right infront to me. I have also started preparing for GATE exam(Probably my biggest mistake), on top of that I have no clue about Java and C# which are bread & butter subjects for computer Science Engineers. Well, you might say that the solution is pretty easy and you are partly right. Both of these can be solved if I spent some time in preparing for them. I hope what I say next will not lead you to judge me in anyway! But the real culprit is "Time" or rather the lack my skills to manage it well during the semester.

Anyway, I would like to apologize for not updating this blog for so long  (my bad...ha ha). But from now on I will try to upload more and more post for viewing and also Will let you know about my experience and maybe even the scores of my exams as well ....provided they are worthy being published! :-)

Whoever is reading this post....Enjoy and have a nice day! :-)

Durga Puja 2010 at the Door step...

One more weekend. And then it will be all so hectic. By this time, coming Friday, I will be sitting for my "1st internal of 5th sem" and also have to check the final details of "The Great Mind Challenge" ..a competition conducted by IBM and register my team before I start for home .

One week to go and it will be Durga Puja... but just not yet...

The coming few days will be hectic... quite hectic. I have to prepare for the internal exam... again the early wake-up call on the exam days, very hectic day all through-out and then in the evening on my return to hostel, I will be stuck in traffic or will come to hostel to a load-shedding.

From past experience, I can so easily conjure up a perfect nightmare.

But let's not get worked up by certain things that is beyond my control... So it is October and I am going to do lot of fun during the puja. I just love it and at the same time feel a strange excitement in my mind.I have planned to do a lot of things in this puja and I hope that things will fall in place... Come on!! I have prepared so hard not for nothing!!..ha ha ha...

This time I have decided that I will not write anything details about the internal exams and nor will I post any photo. The one and only one reasons for this is:"There no time in my hand to write about the stupid internal".

I am sick of lugging around...

But at the end of it all, it isn't internal or study that is at the fore-front of activity... it is all about the excitement of going home after a few month, and that is making me quite happy.

Durga Puja is almost at the door-step... time for the yearly vacation that I look forward to. Sadly, I only able to go back to my home only one day before the puja, blame it more on college administration, less on exam and study. Well the last one is a paradox. study i.e; knowledge is never enough with me.

Durga Puja vacation is therefore a much sought after time of the year for me (and for my family as well). It's home-coming for all of us. There are a lot of student in Kolkata, I know of who will be traveling like me to their home. And believe it in me, they also feel the same excitement in their mind like I do.

Durga Puja... one weekends between me and my vacation. Most importantly my puja shopping is done and packing is also almost complete (almost because there is always too many things to pack at the last moment). And now I am eagerly looking forward to go to home....actually missing my friends and family very much.

But you guys don't forget to watch out for this space as I will keep posting on Durga Puja 2010 and Photos will start appearing on this space probably after October 18, 2010.

Keep watching!!

C U in puja....

Bye Bye!!

5th sem gets crazier!

Its been almost 20 days since my college reopened. The 5th sem has been quite different from before. Friends have become a little closer, Subjects more connected to computers and ohh!! by the way we still have our same old comfortable class room.

And if it is the good news then the bad news is that.....

svist is closed for an indefinite period following a series of clashes between the second year and third year boys.Three 2nd year student of the College ware admitted to nearby HEALTH POINT nursing home.Residential students at its 6 hostels left the hostels as the authorities at an emergency meeting asked them to vacate the dorms.

The clash ensued at about 10:45am when the college bus came to the 3rd year students with full of second year students and there was no space inside the bus for third year students and at that time third year boys asked them to move to the second bus(there was another bus for the 2nd year boys) but they were not ready to hear them. They showed some bad gesture, used slang languages to them and then the real trouble began,a one-on-one fight between the 2nd and 3rd year students was witnessed. At that time the hostel warden, some hostel stuff and 2 or 3 local club member came to the spot to stop them but they were beaten up badly by the 2nd year students. After that Students of the Institute were targeted by the local club and they also informed to the local police station about the incident. In the meanwhile, after reaching to the college, three of the 2nd year boys injured themselves(had to hospitalize them) by breaking the glasses of some window and tried to put the blame on 3rd year students. By the afternoon, one jeep of Police were inside the college. Then the college administration react quickly.Soon after, the 2nd year students were presented before a panel of teachers (and representative from the college authority). After a lengthy discussion the 2nd year students promised to resolve the crisis and guaranteed that they'll not do such kind of things in the near future. However, the police officials warned both the 2nd and 3rd year students to not to do such kind of things for the 2nd time(otherwise they'll have to arrest them).Everything became fine that night.

police inside d classroom

But at the next morning the violence triggured up again when a 2nd year boy throw some bad comments against a 3rd year student. As the news spread the 3rd students started assembling in front of the academic building to show their solidarity.Their demands were simple -

1. Take stern action against the 2nd year boys
2. Apology of the 2nd year boys to the 3rd year boys.

But the college administration failed to react quickly and efficiently. When the 3rd year students urged the college authority to take action against the 2nd year boys, the authority did exactly the opposite. The authority simply chose to invest all their energy in harassing the 3rd students demonstrating peacefully. They were busy to save the 2nd year boys and threatened the 3rd year students to suspend them from the college. On the other hand, the crowd also continued to grow with every passing hour as the situation threatened to spiral out of control and it soon became evident that neither the teachers nor the college authority was interested in justice. Then the non-violent demonstration grew violent within few minutes and the college campus was engulfed in an unprecedented riots. The 2nd and 3rd year boys started fighting against each other again. The violence forced the administrations to convene an emergency meeting to discuss the situation to take an appropriate decision in this regard.

As evening approached the riot lost its momentum and seemed to come to an abrupt halt. Though the simmering tension in the atmosphere was easily perceivable. As things stand now, the college authority announced that the college will remain closed for an indefinite period of time with students instructed to vacate the hostel by 12 am the next day. So,people from outside far off places have no options left than moving to their friends/relatives home.

Actually, its astounding how the college administration managed to turn a peaceful demonstration into a violent riot. All that was required from the college administration was guts. Guts to punish the guilty. Guts to ignore external pressure. Guts to remain unbiased. But they failed. They failed the students, they failed themselves.

Well that's it for now.....Will report back if something happens.

Bye bye ....Take care!! :)
