Durga Puja 2010 at the Door step...

One more weekend. And then it will be all so hectic. By this time, coming Friday, I will be sitting for my "1st internal of 5th sem" and also have to check the final details of "The Great Mind Challenge" ..a competition conducted by IBM and register my team before I start for home .

One week to go and it will be Durga Puja... but just not yet...

The coming few days will be hectic... quite hectic. I have to prepare for the internal exam... again the early wake-up call on the exam days, very hectic day all through-out and then in the evening on my return to hostel, I will be stuck in traffic or will come to hostel to a load-shedding.

From past experience, I can so easily conjure up a perfect nightmare.

But let's not get worked up by certain things that is beyond my control... So it is October and I am going to do lot of fun during the puja. I just love it and at the same time feel a strange excitement in my mind.I have planned to do a lot of things in this puja and I hope that things will fall in place... Come on!! I have prepared so hard not for nothing!!..ha ha ha...

This time I have decided that I will not write anything details about the internal exams and nor will I post any photo. The one and only one reasons for this is:"There no time in my hand to write about the stupid internal".

I am sick of lugging around...

But at the end of it all, it isn't internal or study that is at the fore-front of activity... it is all about the excitement of going home after a few month, and that is making me quite happy.

Durga Puja is almost at the door-step... time for the yearly vacation that I look forward to. Sadly, I only able to go back to my home only one day before the puja, blame it more on college administration, less on exam and study. Well the last one is a paradox. study i.e; knowledge is never enough with me.

Durga Puja vacation is therefore a much sought after time of the year for me (and for my family as well). It's home-coming for all of us. There are a lot of student in Kolkata, I know of who will be traveling like me to their home. And believe it in me, they also feel the same excitement in their mind like I do.

Durga Puja... one weekends between me and my vacation. Most importantly my puja shopping is done and packing is also almost complete (almost because there is always too many things to pack at the last moment). And now I am eagerly looking forward to go to home....actually missing my friends and family very much.

But you guys don't forget to watch out for this space as I will keep posting on Durga Puja 2010 and Photos will start appearing on this space probably after October 18, 2010.

Keep watching!!

C U in puja....

Bye Bye!!

5th sem gets crazier!

Its been almost 20 days since my college reopened. The 5th sem has been quite different from before. Friends have become a little closer, Subjects more connected to computers and ohh!! by the way we still have our same old comfortable class room.

And if it is the good news then the bad news is that.....

svist is closed for an indefinite period following a series of clashes between the second year and third year boys.Three 2nd year student of the College ware admitted to nearby HEALTH POINT nursing home.Residential students at its 6 hostels left the hostels as the authorities at an emergency meeting asked them to vacate the dorms.

The clash ensued at about 10:45am when the college bus came to the 3rd year students with full of second year students and there was no space inside the bus for third year students and at that time third year boys asked them to move to the second bus(there was another bus for the 2nd year boys) but they were not ready to hear them. They showed some bad gesture, used slang languages to them and then the real trouble began,a one-on-one fight between the 2nd and 3rd year students was witnessed. At that time the hostel warden, some hostel stuff and 2 or 3 local club member came to the spot to stop them but they were beaten up badly by the 2nd year students. After that Students of the Institute were targeted by the local club and they also informed to the local police station about the incident. In the meanwhile, after reaching to the college, three of the 2nd year boys injured themselves(had to hospitalize them) by breaking the glasses of some window and tried to put the blame on 3rd year students. By the afternoon, one jeep of Police were inside the college. Then the college administration react quickly.Soon after, the 2nd year students were presented before a panel of teachers (and representative from the college authority). After a lengthy discussion the 2nd year students promised to resolve the crisis and guaranteed that they'll not do such kind of things in the near future. However, the police officials warned both the 2nd and 3rd year students to not to do such kind of things for the 2nd time(otherwise they'll have to arrest them).Everything became fine that night.

police inside d classroom

But at the next morning the violence triggured up again when a 2nd year boy throw some bad comments against a 3rd year student. As the news spread the 3rd students started assembling in front of the academic building to show their solidarity.Their demands were simple -

1. Take stern action against the 2nd year boys
2. Apology of the 2nd year boys to the 3rd year boys.

But the college administration failed to react quickly and efficiently. When the 3rd year students urged the college authority to take action against the 2nd year boys, the authority did exactly the opposite. The authority simply chose to invest all their energy in harassing the 3rd students demonstrating peacefully. They were busy to save the 2nd year boys and threatened the 3rd year students to suspend them from the college. On the other hand, the crowd also continued to grow with every passing hour as the situation threatened to spiral out of control and it soon became evident that neither the teachers nor the college authority was interested in justice. Then the non-violent demonstration grew violent within few minutes and the college campus was engulfed in an unprecedented riots. The 2nd and 3rd year boys started fighting against each other again. The violence forced the administrations to convene an emergency meeting to discuss the situation to take an appropriate decision in this regard.

As evening approached the riot lost its momentum and seemed to come to an abrupt halt. Though the simmering tension in the atmosphere was easily perceivable. As things stand now, the college authority announced that the college will remain closed for an indefinite period of time with students instructed to vacate the hostel by 12 am the next day. So,people from outside far off places have no options left than moving to their friends/relatives home.

Actually, its astounding how the college administration managed to turn a peaceful demonstration into a violent riot. All that was required from the college administration was guts. Guts to punish the guilty. Guts to ignore external pressure. Guts to remain unbiased. But they failed. They failed the students, they failed themselves.

Well that's it for now.....Will report back if something happens.

Bye bye ....Take care!! :)

About Me

Hey everyone,
Since this is my second blog i think it will be better to tell you a little bit about myself and may be explain a little about what I will be talking about in my blog.

First of all, thanks for taking the time to read this! I hope that I will be able to share some interesting stories with you and tell you about engineering life at SVIST(as i did in my previous post). With that said, please feel free to comment on my posts. If you have any questions, just ask and I will try and answer in a timely fashion.

Let's start with an introduction...

Who am I ?

This is me, Arindam Ghosh, a senior in the department of Computer Science and Engineering at SVIST.Yes, I may be posing as an ancient statue in the picture, but I am much more than a sculptor's good taste. I am spontaneous, talkative, and fun loving, and I am always looking to try new things.I really do enjoy learning. Whether it be some knowledge regarding computer programming or the rules of a new sport, experiencing something new and different always gets me excited. I tend to procrastinate which usually ends up in me getting very little to no sleep throughout the week, but somehow my projects & assignments end up getting themselves done.

What is this for?

By writing this blog, I hope to share with you my experiences as an engineering student at SVIST,and also about random life things.I've done a lot of cool things thus far and I think there is a lot more to come, so in the coming blog posts I will probably be updating you on what has happened up till now along with the week by week breakdowns of what is happening. And if there is anything specific you would like me to talk about, or if anyone has any random questions of me,just let me know!...PLEASE post them and I'll try to get you some responses. The more interactive this can become, the more I can taylor it to the needs of my readers.

Right now, I must stop my incessant procrastination and get some work done, but I'll be getting more posts out as soon as possible. Till then, I'll bid you all good bye.
Have Fun...

My First Ever Blog

/*Well this is my first ever blog, so please bear with any protocol/syntax/vocabulary errors*/

I am a student of Swami Vivekananda Institute of Science & Technology, fifth sem Computer Science and Engineering. The college is still under construction(just two years old), but whatever we got,its quite ok. It is actually adjacent to SRIST(Shree Ramkrishna Institute of Science and Technology,a Polytechnic College of swami vivekananda group), so we share the sports facilities with them. The college is around 7km from garia and 5 km from baruipur , actually in Rural Kolkata. It takes around half an hour for me to reach there(and around 2hours for guys staying in places far away from garia and baruipur). We pass across huge agricultural lands, a few ponds and a canale; the view is quite scenic; but that doesn't really compensate for the time loss. The college provides bus facility for the hostelites only (as the hostel is far away from the college) , which is average, nothing special about the buses, just have some fun while traveling with friends.
We have teachers from many colleges in Kolkata. JU, BIT,BESU, FIEM are the colleges from which teachers have joined the college( don't know about other colleges). Our Principal was actually the former HOD of mechanical dept. of FIEM, so he brings in a lotta experience and managerial capabilities. The teachers are also very co-operative, ever-ready to help. There are some teachers who stand out for us and has got tremendous knowledge; knows quite a lot about everything. The best part is that they encourages us to ask doubts and helps us at their best to clear those doubts .Its great fun for us in their class. Well, we do have the irritating ones, since this is a public forum wouldn't risk my neck to make fun of'em.
As for the crowd, trust me except for the so called name Swami Vivekananda has for chics, there is nothing here. Its an absolute desert; you find mirages here and there; but you soon realize the gal is already going around with an extra protective excessively testosterone infused guy, who actually looks like a grizzly bear. You stop to wonder what is wrong with the gal. The guys here behave like complete weirdos; scratching themselves in all the wrong places, making sounds uncharacteristic to Human Beings, drooling like desperadoes at couples,.....there are just too many to write. There is this couple that stands out, /*the names won't obviously be revealed, since I am always a politically correct person*/,whose life is like a perpetual B-grade Hindi Flick; these two people are no great stars, but still the 'Chemistry' is spot on. It provides for one of the greatest time pass for students to make fun of them. People from various parts of the country have come here, so it gives us a great understanding of the other parts of India.
We have had a good record in the university exams, according to one of the teachers. This particular statement can be debated as I always feel drowsy the moment a teacher enters the class( mainly out of the good habit I gained from studying at a sad school called IMHS, not that the teachers are hopeless).
But there do seem to be a bright bunch of kids around.
The weird thing is that our college too doesn't have a mirror, so you should check out all the self-esteem 'deprived lot' of guys fidgeting over there hair, shirt, trousers and everything else in the heavily tinted glass windows of the classrooms. The labs are not very well equipped, but the instruments are brand new , and are well maintained. The library is resourceful, though the list is not exhaustive, its still decent. Internet is available, but highly restricted, have to take permission to use it, strictly no Orkut, facebook etc. The classrooms are spacious and fully air conditioned. The architect seems to have left copious amount of space between classrooms. Its actually quite opposite to the other campus. The main disadvantage here is that you can't bunk. You are bloody 6 or 7 kms from any kind of habitat. So if you bunk you gotta wait for a auto or state bus to take you back home; and by that time you reach outskirts of the city you regret it big time, trust me attending classes is a better option. And the other disadvantage is if you are caught, they will rip your balls apart. As of now few boys and girls are under suspension for bunking, and being foolish enough to be caught.
There is also a college hostel, which are actually residencial buildings, took on rent by the SVIST authority. This is the place to be, the real hip guys are from hostel, know almost everything about the college and give great entertainment(though i am also staying at hostel...ha ha ha..). We have a canteen in our collage. The food is of avarage quality actually, and the lunch tiffin is free for the hostelite( don't really know how they manages the economics of this one).
I still think the college has a long way to go before being judged as anything, coz the first batch of students is yet to pass out and the campus has to be completely built. Actually its quite an enjoyable day one spends in the college.

Cheers
